Help Validate the PCRES
This instrument belongs to the community. Every assessment, every expert review, and every research collaboration brings us closer to giving post-craniotomy patients the recovery measure they deserve.
Use It, Review It, Validate It
Use it in practice
Administer the PCRES at follow-up visits using the Provider Setup tool. Every administration generates anonymized data that contributes to validation.
Join the expert panel
Rate items for content validity using a structured digital form. Takes approximately 30 minutes. Your expert judgment directly determines which items survive validation.
Become a validation site
Enroll your practice as a data collection site for the pilot study. The instrument runs itself digitally — your role is clinical integration and expert input.
Time commitment: Minimal. The instrument runs itself digitally. Clinical integration takes 5–8 minutes per patient per visit.
Shape the Science
Expert review
Provide domain-specific expertise on item quality and construct representation. Your knowledge of cognitive and emotional assessment ensures the PCRES measures what it claims to measure.
Conduct cognitive interviews
If you work with craniotomy patients, facilitate think-aloud interviews using our provided protocol. These interviews reveal what patients actually understand when they read each item.
Consult on scoring methodology
Advise on IRT modeling, CFA structure, and scoring algorithms. Help us build the statistical foundation for a nationally validated instrument.
Collaborate and Publish
Collaborate on validation studies
Access de-identified datasets for secondary analysis. Help build the evidence base that transforms a clinical tool into a validated instrument.
Propose sub-studies
Test the PCRES in specific populations: pediatric craniotomy, awake craniotomy, skull base vs. convexity, tumor vs. vascular. Each sub-population generates unique validation data.
Multi-site coordination
Help organize multi-center data collection across institutions. Geographic and demographic diversity strengthens every analysis.
Publication opportunities
Co-authorship on validation papers for contributing sites. The validation pipeline will generate multiple publications across phases.
Your Experience Matters
Take the PCRES
Every completed assessment contributes to the validation dataset. Your responses help determine whether the instrument works as intended. It takes 5–8 minutes and all data is processed on your device — nothing is stored unless you choose to contribute.
Participate in cognitive interviews
Share your experience completing the instrument. What made sense? What was confusing? What was missing? Your feedback directly shapes the final version.
Share your story
Help us understand what recovery looks like from the inside. With your consent, your experience may inform future item development and help other patients feel less alone.
Lead the Change
Pilot program
Implement the PCRES in your neurosurgical follow-up workflow for 6–12 months. Institutional participation provides the sample size needed for structural validity and reliability testing.
EHR integration consultation
Work with us to build PCRES into your electronic health record. Early integration partners will shape the technical specifications that eventually become the national standard.
Ready to Contribute?
Whether you are a neurosurgeon who wants to use the PCRES tomorrow or a researcher planning a multi-site validation study, we want to hear from you.
